Christopher S. Monaco, Geologist
Chris Monaco is a Geologist with Griggs-Lang Consulting Geologists, Inc. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1998 from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. His education focused on general applications of geology including ore deposits, structural geology, and geophysics.
Following graduation Chris was employed as an exploration geologist for Newmont Exploration, an international gold exploration company. His duties included drilling and sampling specific soil horizons, sampling stream sediment for heavy mineral concentrate samples, and geologic mapping for the purposes of locating large scale gold ore deposits in the Circle Mining District of Alaska.
Chris was also employed as a geophysicist for Western Geophysical, a division of Baker Hughes International, where he utilized seismic exploration methods to locate potential petroleum reserves. His duties included surveying, troubleshooting, seismic operation, and equipment mechanic while enduring the harsh winter climate of Alaska's North Slope.
After moving to New York, Chris was employed as a consulting environmental geologist with The Chazen Companies in Troy, New York. His duties included all phases of environmental site assessments, tank closures, oversight of contaminated soil and groundwater remediation, and geologic assessment of subsurface conditions for geotechnical engineering purposes.
In 2003, Chris joined our firm where his responsibilities have focused on the mining and construction materials industry. His fields of expertise include geologic and hydrogeologic investigations for engineering and groundwater supply projects, topographic surveying, geologic mapping, mine permitting, environmental impact assessment and mitigation, and aggregate reserves estimates and evaluations.
Chris is a member of the Hudson-Mohawk Professional Geologist's Association, the Central New York Professional Geologist's Association, and the New York Council of Professional Geologists. He served as a Board Member for HMPGA in 2004.
